Cornwall, the Royal Duchy, is a distinct and unique part of the British Isles. Located in the far south-western corner of England, the county has much to offer the visitor.
The rugged nature of the coastline means that there are plenty of coves and bays to explore, as well as vast stretches of sandy beaches. Visit St. Michael's Mount, in Mount's Bay, go surfing at Fistral Beach on the Atlantic Coast, or enjoy a day at the Land's End Experience. The National Maritime Museum in Falmouth, which charts Cornwall's maritime history is the county's latest major tourist attraction, having opened in June 2002.
Away from the coast, there is also plenty to see and do. The Eden Project is a must-see attraction; three huge 'biomes', domes set in a former china clay quarry in the Cornish countryside re-create the main climatic systems of the Earth. The Tate Gallery, in St. Ives offers an introduction to modern art in a spectacular setting. Alternatively, you can visit the largest satellite station on Earth at Goonhilly, the UK's telecommunications gateway to the world.
