Cluny Cottage is part of a row of very pretty, ancient thatched cottages in the tiny village of Knowstone, near Tiverton in mid-Devon and approx. 2 miles from the main Devon link road. This is a peaceful, rural area, ideal for country pursuits and within easy reach of a wide variety of attractions such as the National Trust properties of Knightshayes, Killerton and Dunster Castle. Exmoor is close by (Dulverton is 7 miles) and the North Devon coast is a 20 minute drive. A short walk from the cottage is the Mason's Arms, the thatched village inn famous alike for its food and warm welcome.

Dating back some 300 years, Pack Horse Cottage is very much part of local history. In the days of highwaymen and Lorna Doone, travellers would pass the cottage to cross the old Pack Horse Bridge. They would place their toll money in a bag suspended over the gun which was pointing at them through a hole in the wall of the porch. Both the old stone bridge and the hole in the porch are still in evidence today.

This delightful and unusual property has been converted from a former threshing barn (approx. 300 years old) and forms one end of the yard of Middle Burrow Farm, ¾ mile from the attractive village of Wootton Courtenay. It has a particularly fine private garden area including a lawn bordering a large pond. Visitors also have the shared use of the owners' indoor games room with billiard table.
