The village nestles a little inland from Chesil Beach. The narrow streets lined with charming, thatched, stone cottages, meander along the valley floor. The Abbotsbury Sub Tropical Gardens contains many hundreds of varieties of plants within its 20 acres, and is one of the most important and varied collections in the country.
The famous Abbotsbury Swannery, first established by the Benedictine Monks from the Abbey, is still in existence today. It was originally the home of about 1000 swans. Some 300 are now in residence along with many species of wildfowl.
