Gillingham
Gillingham, Dorset's most northerly town and situated on the River Stour, is currently one of the fastest growing in the region. The town grew primarily as a farming centre, but with the arrival of the railway in the mid 19th Century, new industries developed, such as brick making and butter and cheese production. The annual Gillingham & Shaftesbury Agricultural Show takes place on the Showground at Motcombe, located between the two towns.
