Lyme Regis

Clinging to the hillside which rises steeply from the sea, the buildings of this most interesting town seem in danger of sliding into the waves below.

Lyme has seen great days as a West Country port. During the Civil War, Lyme, garrisoned by Cromwell's followers, was under seige for some time, and much damage and loss of life was inflicted by Royalist forces. The coast of Lyme Bay is renowned for its fossils.
