Portsmouth

Portsmouth's history is intertwined with that of the Royal Navy, who have used the town as a main naval base since the days of Richard the Lionheart. The town itself hosts Nelson's ship, 'HMS Victory', the Tudor vessel 'The Mary Rose' which was recovered in the mid 1980's, and 'HMS Warrior'. The Royal Navy Museum takes visitors through the history of the Navy to the present day.

Portsmouth is also a main Channel port, with services to Cherbourg and Le Havre in France, and Bilbao in Spain. There is also a service to Fishbourne on the Isle of Wight. Portsmouth has a good shopping centre and is home to a Premiership football club.
