Glastonbury
The town of Glastonbury is well known for its historical and religious past. One of the earliest legends is that of Joseph of
Arimathea who is said to have journeyed from Palestine to convert these Pagan islands. On his arrival at Glastonbury,
tradition has it that he planted his staff into the ground and it immediately burst into flower (the Glastonbury Thorn). On
the land that he acquired, he is supposed to have built the first Christian Church in Britain, in the 1st Century A.D. More
recently, the town has become well known for the Glastonbury Festival held every summer. Other local sites of interest
include Glastonbury Abbey.
