Montacute (National Trust)

One of the gems of English architecture, this Montacute is said to be one of the most beautiful Elizabethan houses in the country. Standing amid its fine, formal garden, this magnificent building gives an impression of strength combined with elegance. Built between 1588 and 1601, the house has a facinating interior - with fine examples of heraldic glass, superb furniture and the skill of Elizabethan craftsmen shown in the hand carving of its panelled walls.
