Porlock

Located between Lynmouth and Minehead, Porlock is a picturesque town on the north Somerset coast. The town is surrounded by hills, the most well known being Porlock Hill. With its 1:4 gradient, it is used for many hill-climbing competitions. The town is also an excellent base for exploring Exmoor.

Dating back some 300 years, Pack Horse Cottage is very much part of local history. In the days of highwaymen and Lorna Doone, travellers would pass the cottage to cross the old Pack Horse Bridge. They would place their toll money in a bag suspended over the gun which was pointing at them through a hole in the wall of the porch. Both the old stone bridge and the hole in the porch are still in evidence today.
