Once a wool town, Melksham's buildings tell of its past prosperity - in 1816, hot springs were discovered, and like the nearby town of Bath, a pump room and baths were built. Unfortunately, it did not develop, and the town is perhaps best known for the fact that it was used as a World War II airbase. Nearby is the city of Bath, as well as Lacock Village & Abbey, and Castle Combe.
