Swindon

Swindon, the most major town in north Wiltshire is perhaps best known for Brunel's railway works; it was an important centre for railway construction in the 19th and much of the 20th century. The STEAM Museum charts the history of the railways in this area. The town is close to the M4, providing good access to the rest of the UK motorway network. Swindon is a good base for exploring the area, with the Cotswolds to the north and Salisbury Plain to the south.
